Cements for Modern Concrete Construction

June 16, 1-2 pm Eastern

Presented by Eric Koehler, Ph.D, PE | Titan America

Hosted by Lionel Lemay, PE, SE, LEED AP | ConcreteNexus

The demands on concrete are increasing—from fast-track construction, ultra-flat flooring, and the need for more resilient and sustainable construction materials. This presentation describes Titan America’s TriForce Cement and how it addresses the needs of concrete producers, contractors, and specifiers. TriForce™ cement was developed in collaboration with concrete producers and contractors to address real-world challenges in concrete production and placement, including water demand, finishability, and long-term durability. By integrating multiple materials into a single engineered solution, TriForce cement delivers consistent, predictable performance while maintaining the flexibility to incorporate additional SCMs at the concrete plant.

Eric Koehler, Ph.D., P.E., will present this webinar. Koehler is the Vice President of Innovation at Titan America, a leading East Coast producer of low‑carbon cements, aggregates, and ready‑mixed concrete known for advancing sustainable, next‑generation construction materials. Eric holds his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida, Virginia, and Texas. His career spans influential roles in R&D, product development, and concrete technology, with a strong track record of pioneering innovations that elevate performance, quality, and sustainability in ready‑mixed concrete.

Closing the Loop: The Science Behind Carbonation and Circular Concrete

July 14, 1-2 pm Eastern

Presented by Karin Perissinotto, ENV SP, LEED AP BD + C , WELL AP | CalPortland

And Luis Baquerizo, Ph.D. | CalPortland

Hosted by Lionel Lemay, PE, SE, LEED AP | ConcreteNexus

Concrete naturally absorbs carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere over its lifetime through a chemical process called carbonation, permanently converting the gas into solid calcium carbonate. As part of CalPortland’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and lower-carbon construction materials, this presentation will explore the science behind carbonation, CO₂ reabsorption, and emerging approaches advancing circular concrete systems and material recovery.

Karin Perissinotto, Sustainability Manager at CalPortland, brings over 25 years of experience advancing low‑carbon strategies and industry best practices. She is joined by Dr. Luis Baquerizo, Director of CalPortland’s central research laboratory, who has an extensive background in cement chemistry and product innovation across leading research institutions and industry roles. Together, they will connect sustainability leadership with practical applications of materials science as they explore the carbonation process and emerging pathways for circular concrete systems.

From Carbon Targets to Concrete Decisions

June 10, 2026

2 PM Eastern | 11 am Pacific

Online

Embodied carbon targets are increasingly shaping how projects are designed and built, but translating those high-level goals into material-level decisions remains a challenge.

This session explores how owner-driven sustainability requirements connect with the realities of concrete production and EPD data in practice.

  • How embodied carbon targets are set and applied at the project and portfolio level

  • What EPDs can (and can’t) tell you when specifying and sourcing concrete

  • Where gaps exist between owner expectations and supplier capabilities and how to close them

Lionel Lemay will be joined by Sara Neff from Microsoft and Matthew Lemay from Climate Earth. We look forward to seeing you there!

Building Resilience

PNWER Summit 2026

July 19-23, 2026 | JW Marriott, Edmonton, Alberta

The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a rapid rise in costly natural and man‑made disasters, placing growing economic pressure on communities. Beyond physical damage, these events disrupt supply chains, drive insurance premiums higher, interrupt business operations, and increase taxpayer‑funded recovery efforts. This escalating impact highlights the urgent need to strengthen regional resilience. The Working Group is launching a multi‑year effort to improve risk assessment, reduce vulnerabilities, and develop financial strategies that protect homes, infrastructure, and economies. Legislators and business leaders from all PNWER jurisdictions will collaborate to advance policies and programs that enhance resilience and safeguard lives, property, and long‑term regional stability. Representative Brandy Donaghy, Washington State and Lionel Lemay, Chair of Pacific Northwest Building Resilience (PNBRC) will Co-chair this resilience panel scheduled for 1:45 pm - 3:45 pm mountain time. In-person and virtual options are available. PNBRC is also a sponsor and exhibitor at the Summit.

Advancing Net Zero Goals Through Responsible Sourcing of Concrete

Net Zero Conference 2026

October 8, 2026 | Los Angeles Convention Center

Concrete’s global scale makes it essential to any credible net zero strategy. Responsible sourcing provides a practical, verifiable pathway to reduce the material’s carbon footprint while improving transparency and performance across the supply chain. Certification frameworks such as the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) help project teams evaluate environmental stewardship, ethical practices, and continuous improvement from raw materials through ready mix production. By prioritizing lower carbon cement blends, optimized mix designs, renewable energy, efficient quarry operations, and circular practices like recycled aggregates, responsible sourcing directly reduces embodied carbon. It also supports compliance with LEED v5 and emerging owner requirements for low carbon procurement. This session, presented by Lionel Lemay of Concrete Sustainability Council and Lawson Sanford of Climate Earth, will show how responsible sourcing accelerates market transformation and enables concrete to meaningfully contribute to global net zero commitments.
