ConcreteNexus to Coordinate CSC Roll-out in North America

The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) has chosen ConcreteNexus LLC to coordinate the roll-out of its certification program in North America. This partnership will broaden CSC’s sustainability certification for concrete, cement, and aggregates across the U.S. and Canada—a region where the program is just emerging.

“This is a big step forward for the global responsible sourcing certification program, which has a stronghold in Europe and other parts of the world, but is just taking hold in the U.S. and Canada,” says Christian Artelt, Senior Manager Sustainable Construction & Public Affairs at Heidelberg Materials and Chairman of CSC.

Lionel Lemay, CEO of ConcreteNexus, brings extensive green building expertise and was involved in CSC's initial development while he was at the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). NRMCA is the CSC Regional System Operator for North America. The CSC certification is recognized by major rating systems like LEED and Envision and offers concrete companies a way to showcase sustainable practices.

“I’m excited to be an integral part of the growth of the CSC certification here in the United States and Canada,” says Lemay. “The CSC responsible sourcing certification is a great opportunity for concrete and cement companies to demonstrate their excellence in sustainable manufacturing.”

The expansion of CSC certification in North America reinforces the Council’s mission to promote responsible sourcing, social accountability, and environmental performance throughout the concrete value chain.

About the CSC

Founded in 2016, the CSC is the global responsible sourcing certification system for the concrete sector, covering the entire value chain (including the supply chain with cement and aggregates, ready-mix and precast producers). The certification evaluates concrete value chain companies across four key areas: environmental stewardship (reducing CO2 emissions, resource efficiency, biodiversity, circular economy), social responsibility (health & safety, human rights), governance (business ethics, transparency, legal compliance), and economic resilience. By meeting these criteria, certified companies can demonstrate their commitment to responsible sourcing and contribute to more sustainable construction.
